WAXAHACHIE -- There were a couple of positives to come out of Texas High's season-opening 56-7 loss to Pflugerville Hendrickson on Thursday.

The Tigers have at least nine more games to play in 2018, and they'll get an extra day to rest and prepare for their next opponent -- crosstown rival Arkansas High.

But that's where the good vibes end.

Hendrickson posted consecutive 21-point quarters in the first half, scored the game's first 49 points, found the end zone on both defense and special teams, and kept Texas High's offense from crossing the goal line in a dominant Week 1 performance.

The Hawks (1-0), which won 10 games and advanced to the regional finals in Class 6A Division I last season, handed Texas High (0-1) its worst loss since a 49-0 defeat against Marshall in 1989.

Hendrickson senior quarterback Blaine Barker passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, totaling 237 yards of offense. Hawks running back Timieone Jackson had 140 yards from scrimmage and scored twice.

Texas High, which was outgained by 255 yards on the night, was led offensively by senior quarterback and Arkansas State commit Coltin Clack. He was 15 of 32 passing for 157 yards with an interception.

Hendrickson went three-and-out on its first offensive possession, but Darian Fletcher recovered a Texas High muffed punt in the end zone, giving the Hawks a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the opening quarter.

The Hawks scored on its next drive, which travelled 64 yards. Donnie Newsome scored on the 10th play, an 8-yard run for a 14-0 lead.

Texas High's second three-and-out gave way to Hendrickson's third score, a 64-yard touchdown pass from Barker to Jackson.

The Tigers' defense came up with a goal-line stand early in the second quarter, but following another offensive series void of a first down, Hendrickson went up 28-0 on Jackson's 12-yard run.

Clifton Styles made it a five-score game moments later, returning a Tiger fumble 36 yards to the end zone.

Hendrickson built a 42-0 lead just before halftime on Barker's 28-yard touchdown run.

Barker hooked up with Jaden Williams for a 45-yard score on the third play from scrimmage in the third quarter.

Texas High finally got on the board when Marquiz Jackson returned backup quarterback Xavier Lucio's interception 16 yards for a touchdown.

Hendrickson's final score of the night came 18 seconds into the fourth, a 3-yard run from Dre Conley. The rest of the quarter was played with a running clock, only stopping on change of possessions.

The Hawks' season continues next Thursday at home against Smithson Valley.
