Texas High Rallies to Defeat Arkansas High, 43-35

TEXARKANA—Texas High overcame an early 14-point deficit and rolled up over 400 yards of total offense during a 43-35 win over Arkansas High in the annual Battle of the Axe Friday at Tiger Stadium in Grim Park.

The Tigers found the rhythm they needed through the air, quarterback Colton Clack throwing for 281 yards and four touchdowns, three in the second half. Clack also rushed for a pair of scores for Texas High (1-1).

Kobe Webster caught a tunnel screen from Clack on the first play from scrimmage in the second half, and he broke free for a 76-yard TD. Webster also had a 19-yard score from Clack in the first half, cutting into the Razorback (2-1) two-touchdown lead.

Kendall Reid’s 16-yard TD reception with 7:33 left in the third quarter gave THS its first lead of the night. The drive was set up by a 69-yard kickoff return by Mason Jones.

Two plays later, Cameron Collier was off to the races for Arkansas High, speeding 63 yards to the end zone to tie the game at 29. Collier finished with 166 yards rushing and three TDs on 24 carries.

It was the fourth touchdown in 10 offensive snaps between the teams to start the second half.

The Tigers fumbled the ball at the AHS 33 on its ensuing possession, and two punts later the Razorbacks fumbled. Justin Franklin recovered the loose ball for his first of two fumble recoveries on the night, and Myles Washington hauled in a 25-yard strike from Clack.

After Collier’s 21-yard TD run, Clack capped a 5-play, 43-yard drive with a 10-yard keeper, carrying a crowd into the end zone.

Arkansas High scored on two of its first three drives, Sean Foreback sneaking in from the 1 and Collier bulling his way in from the 3.

Webster had two catches for 95 yards, and Reid added five for 85 yards for the Tigers.

Irijah Price had three grabs for 115 yards to lead the Hog receivers.
