HUGHES SPRINGS — Texas High wrapped up the second seed from District 15-5A and was in command from the opening tip to the final buzzer against Hallsville on Friday night.

The Tigers forced 20 turnovers, and the Bobcats shot just 27 percent from the field during a 70-42 Texas High win at Hughes Springs’ Mustang Gym.

The Tigers (19-8) advanced to play Whitehouse (20-11) in the bi-district round Tuesday at Tatum. Hallsville (22-9) faces John Tyler (24-5) in the opening round.

Texas High shot 41 percent (25 of 61) and won the rebounding battle, 46-40.

The teams played the first quarter on near even terms, but the Tigers opened up a 16-point lead by halftime after the Bobcats converted just 3 of 20 shots during the second.

Texas High extended its lead to 21 (55-34) by the end of the third quarter and scored the first five points of the fourth to go up 60-36.

Quan Hampton scored 19 points for the Tigers, Jaylen Rhone added 18 and Curtis Crump had 12 and pulled down eight rebounds to lead on the glass.

Coleton Lasseter scored 10 points to lead Hallsville.
