Texas High’s Quan Hampton Commits to Kansas

Texas High senior receiver Quan Hampton had been committed to Texas State since November, but after receiving his first major Division I offer from Kansas a little more than a month ago, he had a big decision to make.

And on Sunday, he made that decision, flipping from the Bobcats and announcing his commitment to Kansas. Hampton announced the move on Twitter early Sunday evening.

Hampton (5-8, 165) is the 22nd East Texas recruit in the 2017 class to commit to an FBS program.

It was a big senior year for Hampton, who caught 71 passes for 1,299 yards and 10 touchdowns for Texas High in 2016.

Hampton and quarterback Cade Pearson, who is committed to North Texas, helped the Tigers to their first undefeated regular season since 2006. Texas High (10-1) was eliminated by West Mesquite in the first round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

Kansas is in rebuilding mode under coach David Beaty, whose second season with the Jayhawks resulted in a 2-10 record. However, Kansas snapped a 19-game losing streak in Big 12 play with a 24-21 overtime win over Texas on Nov. 19. It was the school’s first win over the Longhorns since 1938.

Hampton, like all high school recruits in their senior year, can make their college decision official on National Signing Day, which is Feb. 1.
