Quan Hampton is the 29th local senior to earn at least one Division I FBS college scholarship opportunity.

Texas State offered the Texas High receiver Saturday. Hampton reported the news to ETSN.fm.

Hampton (5-8, 165), who holds an additional invitation from Sam Houston State of the FCS level, caught 20 passes last year for 385 yards and scored four touchdowns through an 11-game junior campaign. He also fielded 13 punts for an average of 12 yards per return.

Texas High won a share of the District 15-5A championship alongside Longview and Marshall before falling to John Tyler in the Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff round.

Hampton will begin a third consecutive season with senior quarterback Cade Pearson later this month when Texas High travels to Dallas Bishop Lynch for its opening game. Pearson is North Texas' 2016 quarterback commitment.

Texas State state is about to begin its transition away from former head coach Dennis Franchione and his staff. The program hired Everett Withers away from FCS program James Madison after an 8-2 regular season and a trip to the second round of the FCS playoffs.

Withers took his only other James Madison team to the FCS playoffs in 2014.

The Bobcats new defensive-minded head coach also has Division I FBS experience. He led North Carolina to a 7-5 regular season in 2011 as the interim succeeding Butch Davis before losing his final game in the Independence Bowl.

Withers gained early positional coaching experience at Austin Peay, Tulane and Southern Miss before spending the 1994 season with the New Orleans Saints as a quality control assistant. He then returned to the college game in 1995 as Louisville's defensive coordinator ahead of becoming Texas' defensive backs coach from 1998 to 2000.

From there, Withers spent five seasons as a defensive backs coach for the Tennessee Titans before serving as Minnesota and North Carolina's defensive coordinator.

After being let go by North Carolina with the rest of Davis' staff to make way for Larry Fedora, Withers found a home with Ohio State as defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer.

Texas State posted a 3-9 record with Franchione last season. Hampton is the ninth senior player the Bobcats program has offered from the region.

Hampton, like all high school football players beginning their senior years, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in February.
