Despite announcing his commitment to Washington State last month, another school has joined the pursuit of West Rusk 2018 linebacker Tyree Wilson.

On Friday, Texas State became the third Division I FBS program to offer the Raiders' defender, Wilson announced via Twitter.

Wilson (6-5, 225) also holds an offer from Louisiana-Lafayette.

Texas State also offered Tatum offensive lineman Drake Centers on Friday, and the Bobcats currently have three offers out to 2018 East Texas prospects -- the other belonging to Marshall offensive lineman and LSU commit Chasen Hines.

Wilson was a force on West Rusk’s Class 3A Division II bi-district team last season. He made 68 solo tackles, including 13 for loss, and assisted six other tackles in 11 games as part of a linebacking corps that cannibalized each other’s stats.

In addition to 74 total tackles, Wilson forced two fumbles and returned one interception 34 yards for a touchdown.

Texas State had a considerably more difficult season under first-year coach and 28-year coaching veteran Everett Withers. The squad dropped 10 of its final 11 games for a 2-10 overall record.

However, Bobcats fans are still optimistic Withers is the answer. He headed the James Madison program at the FCS level between 2014 and 2015, and he reached the playoffs in both seasons.

James Madison won the FCS national championship this past year with players predominantly recruited by Withers’ staff.

Withers was Urban Meyer’s first defensive coordinator at Ohio State prior to joining James Madison. He was hired by Meyer after leading North Carolina the full 2011 season and through a bowl game as an interim coach.

Texas State’s headman also has NFL experience from stints with the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans. He went to the NFL playoffs twice as the Titans’ defensive backs coach.

Wilson, like all college football prospects currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
