Texas Tech has put to an end Josh Thompson's lack of Big 12 Conference attention.

The junior Nacogdoches corernabck and the Defensive Most Valuable Player at the ETSN.fm + APEC Football Recruiting Combine on Sunday is the latest player to pick up a scholarship opportunity from the Red Raiders program.

Thompson (6-0, 182), who received an offer from Houston earlier in the day and already had interest from schools in the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences, first announced the news through his personal Twitter account Monday.

Thompson turned in a lights out performance at the combine event. Highlights included recording a 4.48-second, laser-timed 40-yard dash and a 36-inch vertical jump.

Last season, the corner recorded nine pass breakups, intercepted a pass and recorded 33 tackles through Nacogdoches’ 10 games. He also caught 10 passes for 152 yards as a receiver.

Nacogodches finished its year in a three-team tie for the fourth and final spot out of District 16-5A with Lindale and Corsicana. Lindale advanced to the playoffs by nature of its head-to-head point differential against Nacogdoches and Corsicana.

Texas Tech posted a 7-5 record in the regular season last year with a signature non-conference win against Arkansas. The team also ended a winless streak in Austin dating back to 1997 with a 48-45 victory at Texas.

Within Big 12 play overall, the program went 4-5.

Four of the Red Raiders' five losses came to teams ranked 17th or higher at the time of the games.

Texas Tech finished its 2015 campaign against then-No. 22 LSU in the Texas Bowl, a 56-27 loss.

Former East Texas high school players are key pieces of the Red Raiders roster. Ex-Whitehouse quarterback Patrick Mahomes II is arguably the team's most valuable player and might be a high-level NFL Draft pick if he declares himself eligible following his junior year this upcoming season.

Mahomes had the 11th-best quarterback rating in the FBS last year. He was the fifth-best among quarterbacks returning to the collegiate game for the 2016 season and adds to his value as a threat to run the ball.

Ex-Longview athlete Pete Robertson was a bright spot as a senior on Texas Tech's defense, which was the weak point of the 2015 team. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks after going undrafted.

Broderick Washington, another Longview graduate, might help bolster defensive line depth in his true freshman season.

While Texas Tech's defense has a lot to prove in 2016, the offensive side is poised to be one of the nation's best -- as it has been since the early 2000s.

Dylan Cantrell (Whitehouse), Keke Coutee (Lufkin), Reginald Davis (Tenaha) and Jake Parker (Whitehouse) are all parts of a very deep receiver rotation.

Thompson, like all high school football prospects currently in their junior year, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
