FORT WORTH -- A trio of East Texas boys golfers qualified for the UIL Class 4A state tournament with impressive performances at the Region II tournament.

Pine Tree's Bryce Alley, Hallsville's Devin Jackson, and Nacogdoches' Collin Frizzell are Austin-bound after the regional tournament at Waterchase Golf Club in Forth Worth on Monday and Tuesday.

Alley shot a first-round 72 and a second-round 4-under-par 68 for a two-day total of 140 for second place, two strokes behind Highland Park's Scottie Scheffler. Jackson (71-75--146) tied for third with Highland Park's Charlie Click.

Frizzell (76-71--147) qualified for the state tournament after winning a crowded playoff for the third medalist spot outside of golfers from the top three finishing teams. The playoff went six holes and Frizzell wound up 2-under-par for the playoff.

"The round of golf the final day between Devin, Collin, Bryce, and Cameron Brown from Jacksonville was without a doubt one of the best rounds of high school golf I have witnessed in a dozen years of coaching golf," said Pine Tree coach Jody Berryhill.

Brown narrowly missed a state tournament berth after shooting a second-round 74 for a two-day score of 150.

Alley and Jackson are making their second consecutive trips to the state tournament. Alley joins Travis Chrietzberg (2008) and Dan Floyd (1999) as PT golfers to reach the state tournament. Last year, Jackson was the first Hallsville golfer to qualify for the state tournament.

Highland Park Blue (581), Highland Park Gold (613), and Prosper (613) were the team qualifiers for the state tournament.
