Three White Oak Players + Two Douglass Players Named to State All-Tournament Teams
A trio of White Oak basketball standouts joined a pair of brothers from Douglass as UIL state basketball all-tournament team selections.
White Oak senior point guard Kris Anderson joined senior forward Levi Yancy and junior forward Hayden Nichols on the Class 2A all-tournament team. Douglass senior guard Reed Westbrook and junior forward Bryce Westbrook were named to the Class A Division II all-tournament squad.
Anderson, who hit the game-winning shot in the final seconds of White Oak's 56-54 championship game victory over Brock on Saturday, was named MVP as well. He had 12 points and six assists in the championship game after recording two points and 13 assists in the Roughnecks' 69-50 state semifinal win Friday against Winnie East Chambers.
The 6-foot-7 Yancy had 16 points, 15 rebounds, and six blocks against East Chambers, then four points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks in the title game. Nichols led White Oak with 21 points and nine rebounds in the state semifinal before posting 12 points and seven rebounds in Saturday's championship.
Bryce Westbrook had 20 points and eight rebounds in Douglass' 53-44 state semifinal win Friday against Water Valley. He again led Douglass in scoring in the Indians' 60-54 state-title loss to Roxton on Saturday, finishing with 23 points and eight boards . Reed Westbrook had 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists against Water Valley and 22 points, including 5-for-12 three-point shooting, against Roxton.
The Brock duo of senior guard Tre Ewell and senior forward Luke Hummel joined Anderson, Nichols, and Yancy on the 2A all-tournament team. Roxton senior guards Lester Green (MVP) and Qunton Walker and Texline sophomore guard Aaron Gutierrez accompanied the Westbrook brothers on the 1A D-II all-tournament team.
