Thursday Baseball: Van Captures District Opener With 8-3 Win Over Emory Rains + More

EMORY -- The Van Vandals earned an 8-3 win over Emory Rains on Thursday afternoon in their District 14-3A opener.

Senior Garrett Walker (2-0) got the win on the mound for the Vandals, allowing just a run in five innings. Junior Robbie Davis finished with two innings of relief.

Van senior Colton Carpenter doubled as part of a two-hit performance, while Brett Doring also came through with two hits for the Vandals.

Van returns to action Tuesday at home against Canton.

Elkhart Grabs Two Wins At Edgewood

EDGEWOOD -- The Elkhart Elks captured a pair of wins Thursday at the Edgewood Tournament, defeating Cushing, 7-0, and Crandall, 4-3.

Nick Gonzales got the win in Elkhart's shutout win over Cushing, while Tanner Tutt went the distance on the mound in the Elks' narrow win over Crandall.

Elkhart continues play Friday at 4:45 p.m. against Farmersville, before facing tournament host Edgewood in the nightcap.
