Thursday Basketball Roundup: Whitehouse + Athens Still Unbeaten After Tournament Wins
BURKBURNETT -- The Whitehouse Wildcats remained perfect on the year with a 56-37 win over Canyon Randall on Thursday at the Burkburnett Tournament.
Spencer Shaw led Whitehouse (9-0) with 17 points. Patrick Mahomes chipped in with 14 points.
Whitehouse continues tournament action Friday against Burkburnett at 11:30 a.m. and Lubbock Monterey at 4:30 p.m.
No. 23 Athens Too Much For Royse City
WILLS POINT -- The 23rd-ranked Athens Hornets stayed unbeaten on the season with a 77-65 victory over Royse City on Thursday at the Wills Point Tournament.
Anthony Sanders scored a game-high 41 points, which included a 30-point first half, for Athens (9-0). He also added six assists and seven steals.
Ryan Jefferson contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds, Kynden Crist and Courtland Lyons had seven points apeice and Josh Garrett grabbed 13 boards to go with two points.
Central Heights Tournament
NACOGDOCHES -- The Nacogdoches Central Heights Tournament got under way on Thursday.
Rusk scored a pair of victories -- 62-57 over Alto and 63-35 over Apple Springs -- and Pollok Central earned a 56-34 win over Troup.
Gary Opens Tournament With Win
GARY -- Gary began its own tournament with a 59-38 victory over Timpson on Thursday.
Amber Gage led Gary with 20 points. Meagan Sewell added 18 points, while Ryley Beckham finished with 11 points, six rebounds, eight assists and eight steals.
