MABANK -- Spring Hill girls basketball coach Allan Pope won his 300th career game Thursday with Spring Hill's 50-38 win over Mabank in the Lady Panthers' season opener.

Spring Hill's season was delayed due to its volleyball team's run to last week's regional tournament, but after just three practices will his full team, Pope didn't have to wait very long for the milestone win.

The Lady Panthers' season resumes Friday at home against Texas High.

Winona, Beckville Earn Wins At Big Sandy Tourney

BIG SANDY -- Winona and Beckville each took victories Thursday on the first day of the Big Sandy Tournament.

Winona (5-0) defeated Overton, 54-34. Kawaii Gordon led the way with 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jamece Gulley added 16 points, six steals and three assists and Darrisha Crawford contributed 11 points and eight boards.

Beckville scored a 21-16 win over Cross Roads behind Ivy Rieke's 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Beckville's next game at the tournament is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday.
