TYLER -- Quitman went 3-0 on the first day of the Tyler Tournament on Friday.

Quitman defeated John Tyler (25-16, 25-19), Tatum (25-15, 25-21), and Whitehouse (25-23, 25-9).

In the win over John Tyler, Quitman led by Kaci Raley, who had seven kills, two blocks, five digs, and an ace. Madalyn Spears added three kills, nine digs, and an ace, Macy Wilson had six kills and four digs, Molly Tanner provided four kills and seven digs, while Cammie Hicks chipped in with 18 assists, 1 kill, and a dig.

Against Tatum, Raley finished with 10 kills, two blocks, and five digs. Spears followed with nine kills, 10 digs, and three aces, while Hicks dished out 20 assists.

In the sweep of Whitehouse, Raley again led the way with 11 kills, three digs, and an ace. Spears had seven kills and six digs, while Hicks assisted on 23 points.

Quitman (11-1) returns to action in the Tyler Tournament on Saturday.

 

Alba-Golden Goes 1-2 in Tyler Tourney

TYLER -- The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers went 1-2 in pool play at the Tyler Tournament on Thursday.

Alba-Golden defeated Elkhart (25-23, 25-12), but fell to Sulphur Springs (25-22, 25-18) and Longview (25-20, 24-26, 25-15).

In the win over Elkhart, Gracie Pendergrass led the way with six kills and two aces. Ginny Carson added six kills, while Bethany Carson chipped in with six blocks.

Against Sulphur Springs, Pendergrass had eight kills, Ginny Carson added five kills and six digs, Bethany Carson and Kenzie Chadwick combined for eight blocks, Lindsey Roberts had six digs, and Brianna Weissert assisted on 21 points.

In the loss to Longview, Pendergrass finished with 11 kills, two blocks, and six digs. Ginny Carson added eight kills and three digs, Bethany Carson had five blocks, Chadwick had two blocks, Weissert registered 26 assists and four digs, while Aspen Howard and Roberts combined for 10 digs and 10 aces.

 

Emory Rains Goes 3-1 on First Day of Forney Tourney

FORNEY -- The Emory Rains Ladycats went 3-1 on the first day of the Forney ISD Tournament on Thursday.

Rains (11-5) defeated Sunnyvale (25-20, 25-23), lost to Dickinson (25-12, 23-25, 25-15), beat Ennis is straight sets, and defeated Richardson Berkner (25-22, 22-25, 25-20).

In the win over Sunnyvale, Charlotte Bradshaw led Rains with 13 kills. Taylor Pruitt added five kills, McKenna Hildebrant had five kills and five blocks, Shelbi Sheppard dished out 18 assists, Kenna Kellam and Elissa Elliott combined for 14 digs, and Anna Hooten racked up three aces.

Against Dickinson, Bradshaw finished with 10 kills. Pruitt and Summer Nerkowski each had six kills, Sheppard finished with 23 assists, Kellam and Elliott combined for 23 digs, and Hildebrant came away with four blocks.

In the sweep of Ennis, Bradshaw had 10 kills and 10 digs, Nerkowski finished with four kills, Sheppard added 22 assists and six digs, Kellam had six digs, while Hildebrant and Delaney Hill each had three blocks.

In the defeat of Berkner, Bradshaw led the way with 15 kills and 11 digs. Pruitt added six kills, Sheppard had 22 assists, five digs, and an ace, Hooten and Kellam combined for 13 digs, Hildebrant and Hill teamed for 10 blocks, while Nerkowski chipped in with a pair of aces.

Rains returns to action Friday at Greenville before returning to Forney tourney action Saturday morning.
