Thursday Volleyball Roundup: Carthage Gets By Mabank In Four

WHITEHOUSE -- Alli Capps led Carthage to a four-set win against Mabank in the Class 4A area round of the state volleyball playoffs at Whitehouse High School.

Capps' team-best 23 kills helped the Lady Bulldogs recover from a loss in the first set for a 20-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-6 decision. Carson Robertson also had a big night with 34 assists.

Cindrasha Boykin and Faith Landreneaux scored nine kills apiece for the winning side.

Carthage will face the winner of Friday's area round playoff game between Gilmer and Pleasant Grove in the third round of the tournament.

Beckville Bounces Hooks

ORE CITY -- Kinley Pepper recorded a staggering 43 assists in just a three-set Class 3A area round win against Hooks, 25-17, 25-21, 25-11, at Ore City High School.

Riley Seegers had the biggest night offensively for Beckville. She recorded 19 points on 17 kills, an aced serve and one block.

Kinley Blair also hit double digits with 12 kills, an ace and a block.

Beckville will play Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill in the third round of the state playoffs. The match will be played Tuesday, but the time and location still have to be worked out between the two schools.
