GARY -- The hosting Lady Bobcats picked up a 35-33 win against New Summerfield on Thursday at the Gary Basketball Tournament.

Lacey McCasland led Gary with a team-best eight points and also recorded seven rebounds in the victory.

Kristina Mayo led the team in boards with 11 and along with Ryley Beckham recorded four steals and three assists. Beckham had six points in the game and Mayo led four individual players with four points.

 

Beckville Picks Up A Win Against Broaddus

GARY -- Chelcie Pierce scored 15 points for Beckville and Kimber Wesner added another 11 on the way to a 41-24 win against Broaddus at the Gary Basketball Tournament.

The Ladycats did a great job in the rebounding department with 28, led by Wesner's eight boards.

Madi Mize got seven rebounds to Beckville in addition to a team third-best seven points.

 

West Rusk Downs San Augustine

GARY -- LaTavia Edwards scored 21 points for San Augustine, but the Lady Wolves fell to West Rusk, 54-45, in day one of the Gary Basketball Tournament.

West Rusk will take on Gary on Friday.

San Augustine, which feel to 3-4, will try to bound back against Broaddus' junior varsity team Friday.

 

Boys

Whitehouse Outlasts Highland Park

BURKBURNETT -- Highland Park missed a 35-foot shot at the buzzer and Whitehouse hung on for a 50-48 win in the Burkburnett bracket of the Fantasy of Lights Tournament in the Wichita Falls area.

Javier Neal and Trent Williams led the Wildcats (7-5) with eight points each.

Isaiah Clark, Bryce Hand, Ryan Walls and Colby Duhon each scored six points in the win.

Whitehouse will take on Lubbock Monterey at 1 p.m. Friday and wrap up the day with Burkburnett at 6 p.m.

 

Laneville Handles Slocum In Gary Tournament

GARY -- Tra Alexander scored 20 points and Kendrick Anderson as well as Ladarius Arentt scored 16 each in the Yellowjackets' 80-35 win Thursday at the Gary Basketball Tournament.

Jaylon Grant rounded out Laneville's double-digit scorers with 10 points in the game.

Arnett made four 3-point tries against Slocum, Tra Alexander scored twice from behind the arc and Anderson added a sixth long-range shot.

Anderson led Laneville (6-1) in the steals department with six.

Ty Johnson recorded a team-best nine rebounds.

The Yellowjackets will play the winner of the Gary versus Alto game at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Gary.
