Tiarra Davis Strikes Out 15 in No. 5 Henderson’s 4-0 Shutout of Bullard
BULLARD -- Tiarra Davis' dominance continued Tuesday night.
The Henderson left-hander threw a complete-game, one-hitter in a 4-0 win over Bullard, which improved the fifth-ranked Lady Lions to 11-0 in District 16-3A.
Davis, a Texas signee, struck out 15 and came within an out of a no-hitter. She struck out 10 consecutive Lady Panthers before issuing a one-out walk in the fourth.
"It's wonderful," said Henderson coach Kristen Lacy of Davis. "She really comes through every time. We need a big out, she comes through. Her leadership is tremendous. She's a blessing."
Henderson got on the board in the top of the first. After Davis reached on an error and Natalie McQuiston walked, Jessica Thomas drove in a run with a single and Taylor White's fielders choice brought in another.
"We came out hitting early, making adjustments, then fell off a little," Lacy said. "(Bullard pitcher Kristen Springer) was bringing it. We had to continue to make adjustments, and we finally found it in the seventh."
McQuiston's two-run single in the seventh put the game out of reach.
"I think, as a team, we did great," said Davis. "Our defense backed us up the whole way. Me and coach Lacy work very well together. I give all the credit to her. She calls it, I throw it."
Bullard's Sarah Ritch had the only hit for Bullard, a two-out single in the seventh.
Henderson faces Kilgore in the district finale on Friday, followed by a warm-up game against the No. 4 team in 3A, Rusk, on Monday. Bullard is at Gilmer on Friday in its final game of the season.
