TENAHA -- Senior running back Tony Hubbard rushed for 179 yards and scored four touchdowns the help San Augustine defeat Tenaha, 38-33, Friday night.

Hubbard scored the game-winner on a 1-yard run with 4:54 remaining, set up by his dazzling run to the 1, eluding several would-be tacklers.

Tenaha (2-4) had one last shot at the end zone but a pass intended for Jacobi Ivy was picked off by Zhikavan Wilson and the Wolves took a knee to seal the victory.

San Augustine (3-2) was first to strike in the second half and it was the Wolves' second touchdown of the night on a fourth-down play. Hubbard found the end zone on fourth-and-10 on Tenaha’s 25-yard line, giving San Augustine a 32-20 lead early in the third.

With running back Chavis Gregory on the sidelines with an ankle injury, Tenaha went with Cobe Caraway as the main ball carrier. Caraway rumbled 84 yards to shrink San Augustine’s 12-point lead to six. The two-point conversion was no good as Tenaha trailed, 32-26, heading into the fourth quarter.

Caraway ended the night with 10-carries for 145-yards, one touchdown with 132 of those yards coming in the second half.

Tenaha took the lead midway through the fourth when J.R. Hill hooked up with Keontas Davis for the duo’s second touchdown of the night. Brady Tovar’s kick was good and Tenaha led, 33-32.

Davis ended his night with four catches for 39 yards.

San Augustine opened the game with an 80-yard kickoff return by Ty’Aundra Taylor to give the Wolves a 6-0 lead, just 17 seconds into the game. Taylor ended the night with two kickoff returns for 112 yards to go along with 105 yards rushing on 15 carries and one receiving touchdown.

The next San Augustine drive was capped by Hubbard’s first touchdown of the night, this one from 50 yards out. The Wolves went for two and T.J. Thomas picked off Bobby Tanner’s pass and went the other way to put Tenaha on the board, but the Tigers still trailed 12-2.

Eight minutes later Tenaha got on the board again when Gregory forced a Tanner fumble and Caraway scooped up it and rumbled 6 yards to the end zone. The two-point conversion failed and San Augustine held on to a 12-8 lead after the first quarter.

Tenaha took the lead less than two minutes later as Gregory, who took snaps at quarterback, found a receiver in the back of the end zone. After another failed two-point conversion attempt, Tenaha led 14-12.

On a 12-play, 71-yard drive, Tanner scrambled and found Taylor on a fourth-and-16 for a 20-yard touchdown. San Augustine reclaimed the lead, 18-14.

The Tigers answered the next drive with Hill finding Davis for a 20-yard touchdown of their own and Tenaha led 20-18 with three minutes left in the first half.

Hubbard put the Wolves back in front with a 3-yard touchdown run that ended a 4-play, 70-yard drive. Hubbard’s successful two-point conversion gave San Augustine a 26-20 lead heading into the half.

San Augustine plays host to Grapeland in a District 10-A Division I battle, while Tenaha plays host to Burkeville in a 11-A Division II matchup.
