TAPPS Division II, District II is often left holding the bag in its competition for attention with similarly stacked East Texas UIL districts.

Yes, good football is played at the private school level. In fact, Bullard Brook Hill at Tyler Bishop Gorman is the No. 7 game of the year as ETSN.fm counts down the top 25 East Texas regular season match ups of 2015.

This Oct. 16 meeting has everything.

The two sides met twice last season with different results. Brook Hill took a regular season game, 36-20, and Bishop Gorman got even with a 28-21 state quarterfinal win in the middle of a monsoon.

Both teams have suffered a few graduation losses and key Brook Hill running back Gabe Lucio transferred to district foe Dallas Christian, but the squads still should be as competitive as ever.

Quarterback Michael Goodwin might be the best quarterback in the region. After all, he was the position's highest producer when you throw 1,247 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns to his 3,356 passing yards and 26 throwing scores.

Judah Bell and Martin Guzman will be Goodwin's top targets and proved more than capable last season. Bell broke 1,000 yards despite competing for touches against now-San Diego State receiver Connor Hobbs' East Texas-best 1,390 yards.

The Guard, and the rest of the competitors in the district for that matter, also are aerially based and the defenses are fine-tuned to defend the pass.

Senior receiver Seth Brasher is back for more after suffering a torn ACL in the seventh game of 2014. He was on pace for about 1,300 receiving yards and finished the campaign with 868.

The talent is there. Are the circumstances?

You bet.

Dallas Christian is the team to beat, but the game will still have a giant say in the district outcome. We're projecting Bishop Gorman to finish second within the league and Brook Hill to come up just behind the Crusaders.

That can all change on this particular night if everything else goes to plan. Bishop Gorman will face off with Dallas Christian the next week while the Guard get their chance on Sept. 25.

An emerging rivalry, phenomenal skill players, bad blood and playoff seeding all factor into the No. 7 game of the year.
