WACO – The top-ranked Mason Punchers ran away with Friday night’s Class 2A Division I state semifinal, ending San Augustine’s season with a 52-8 rout at Waco ISD Stadium.

San Augustine (12-3) has now been eliminated in the final four in each of the last two years.

Mason (15-0) will face New Deal (15-0) in the state title game at 11 a.m. Thursday from AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

The Punchers were led by running back Klay Klaerner, who ran for 212 yards and four touchdowns on the night.

DelMarquis Barnes’ 11-yard touchdown pass to Justin Jenkins late in the fourth quarter accounted for San Augustine’s only score.
