WASKOM -- Touchdowns from Trey Hodge and Dee Black were all Jefferson needed to start 2017 with a win.

Each Bulldog scored two touchdowns and Jefferson's defense held off Waskom in a 27-21 win in the season-opener Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Hodge scored twice in the second, with the first on an 8-yard run to give Jefferson a 7-0 lead and the second from 41 yards out to go up 14-7.

After Hodge's second score, Chris Stafford returned the ensuing kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown to get Waskom within a point, but Hodge found Black for a 70-yard touchdown just seconds later to put the Bulldogs up 21-13 at halftime.

Black scored again early in the fourth quarter to give Jefferson a 27-13 lead.

T.K. Hamilton's 25-yard touchdown catch, his second score of the game, got Waskom to within 27-21 but the Wildcats couldn't respond afterward. Hamilton tied the game in the second quarter at 7-7 on a 9-yard touchdown run.
