ORE CITY -- Elysian Fields run-ruled Ore City, 21-0, Tuesday for its third District 17-2A win in three games.

The Yellowjackets are now 9-9 overall and 3-0 in district play.

Elysian Fields' Keely Howard and Jane Harris combined for six strikeouts, two hits and two walks in the five-inning game.

It was obviously a great day offensively for the Yellowjackets.

Harris batted 4-for-5 from the plate with four runs scored and two doubles. Madison Spears and Bailee Fry both hit 3-for-4 with Spears knocking in 4 RBIs in addition to four runs scored.

Callie McReynolds, Jolie Whaley, Montanna Methvin, Kaycee Bailey and Melody Chmiel also finished the game batting .500 or above.

 

Carthage gets past Jacksonville, 3-2

 

CARTHAGE -- It was business as usual for Samantha Clakley.

Carthage's ace knocked down nine Jasper batters on strikeouts, allowed a hit and gave up just two walks in a 3-2 win Tuesday. The Jasper Bulldogs' two runs were unearned.

Kystin Martin led Carthage offensively with a 2-for-2 day, a RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Kacey Maines batted 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Ashleigh Edge's hit was for 2 RBIs and Cooper Clinton had the third run scored for Carthage.

The Carthage Bulldogs are 16-3 overall and 2-1 in District 20-3A play. They'll face Pollack Central on March 18.

 

Monday

 

Buckeyes top Chapel Hill

 

CHAPEL HILL -- Gilmer defeated Chapel Hill, 7-4, to move to 3-0 in District 16-3A.

Makayla Sikes and Sommer Hines both batted 2-for-4 with 1 RBI. Mallery Stanley doubled in the sixth inning.

Shaylee Fennell pitched for the win.

 

BASEBALL

OVERTON -- Carlisle defeated Overton, 10-5, Tuesday in District 20-A play.

Justin McMurty had a big game.

On the mound, McMurty (1-0) pitched a seven-hit, two-walk complete game with five runs against. He also batted 2-for-3 with a RBI.

The Indians' offensive effort was supplemented by Zach Brightwell, Kolton Heim, Ben Goss and Collin Gray. Each player chipped in 2 RBIs.

Goss recorded a double and Birghtwell had a triple.

Carlisle will visit Beckville on Friday.
