ATHENS -- Henderson opened its 2014-2015 season with a 56-39 win against Athens on the road.

Ja'Keyah Stewart and Joy Williams led the way for the Lady Lions with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Six of Madeline Morris' nine points came from beyond the arc, the games lone two made 3-point buckets.

Nakia McElhanon came up with eight big points to push Henderson over the threshold.

Athens was led by Bryla Barker's 16 points. The next closest player scored six points.

Henderson will host Mineola on Saturday. Athens will stay at home for a game against Grand Saline on Friday.

 

Bullard Edges Brownsboro

BULLARD -- The Lady Panthers squeaked out an opening win against Brownsboro, 44-39.

Lexi Kigran and Hannah Lloyd led the way with 13 points each.

Kristen Chamberlain, DeAnna Howard, Maddy Slater, Tracy Johnson and Lauren Zachry rounded out Bullard scorers in the game.

The Lady Panthers will host Palestine on Friday. Brownsboro will make a short trip to Athens on Tuesday for its second game of the season.
