TYLER -- Judah Bell had a fantastic night for Bishop Gorman with 29 points, but Tyler Grace Community was able to hold the rest of the Crusaders team to nine total points en route to a 56-38 win in TAPPS District 2-4A.

The Cougars had three players finish in double digits. Andrew Melhart led the way on the winning side with 17 points, Trevor Gunter scored 15 and Garrett Tauscher chipped in 10.

Melhart also dished four assists and recorded two steals.

Caleb Culver played a big role on the defensive side of the floor with nine rebounds. Gunter added six more boards.

Grace will play Brighter Horizon Academy on Friday.

 

No. 3 Martin's Mill Shoots Lights Out Against Fruitvale

MARTIN'S MILL -- The No. 3 Mustangs went off from behind the arc in an 82-52 win against Fruitvale in District 14-2A.

Davis Moore hit six treys on the way to a 28-point night and Longan Jenkins had three scores from downtown as part of his 25 points in the game.

Hunter Conway also had a big night with 17 points.

Fruitvale was led by three double digit scorers of their own, but none near Martin's Mill's Moore and Jenkins.

Eric Lane scored 14 points, Gage Sulc had 12 and Gauno Ronyel rounded them out with 11.

The Mustangs moved to 20-4 and 2-0 in the league. Fruitvale fell to 1-1 in district play.

Martin's Mill will visit North Hopkins on Friday. Fruitvale hosts Cumby on the same date.

 

No. 22 Wasom Breaks .500 With Blowout Win

NEW DIANA -- Waskom ripped New Diana for a 68-13 win in District 17-3A action.

The win moved the Wildcats, who delayed the start of the season due to their football state championship run, to 6-5 on the season and 2-0 in the league.

Eric Stephens III connected on three 3-pointers and led Waskom with 23 points.

Chan Amie added 18 points during the game.

Waskom has a big game at home against White Oak on Friday. New Diana will visit Elysian Fields.

 

No. 2 Laneville Doubles Up Mount Enterprise

LANEVILLE -- The Yellowjackets defeated Mount Enterpise, 101-49, Tuesday in District 28-A play.

Tra Alexander earned a double-double with 32 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Three other players reached the double digits for Laneville (16-3, 5-0).

Jaylon Grant scored 23 points, Kendrick Anderson scored 16 and Ty Johnson closed out the field with 12.  

The team collectively recorded 21 steals, led by Johnson's six.

Laneville visits No. 23 Douglass on Friday in a big showdown. Mount Enterprise will try to rally at home against Gary.

 

Whitehouse Falls To Corsicana

CORSICANA -- Whitehouse continued its District 16-5A skid with a 51-36 loss at Corsicana.

The Wildcats leading scorer, Trent Williams, was held to seven points.

Corsicana moved to 21-5 overall with the win and has a 4-2 district record. It will next take on Jacksonville on Jan. 27.

Whitehouse hosts Jacksonville on Friday.

 

Girls Basketball

Lexi Kirgan Guides No. 10 Bullard To Narrow Win At Chapel Hill

NEW CHAPEL HILL -- Bullard advanced its league record to 4-0 with a 36-31 win against Chapel Hill in District 14-4A.

Lexi Kirgan led the team with 26 points.

Kristen Chamberlain, Hannah Lloyd and Lauren Zachry combined for the Lady Panthers' (24-5) final 10 points.

Bullard hosts Kilgore on Friday. Chapel Hill will hit the road for a game against Gladewater.

 

No. 9 Martin's Mill Rolls Fruitvale

MARTIN'S MILL -- Cheyenne Brown scored 32 points to pace the Lady Mustangs past Fruitvale, 77-24.

Alyssa Pate and Bailey Moon also had big nights with 19 and 11 points, respectively, and combined for eight made 3-point scores.

Hailey Celsur recorded six assists, five rebounds and five steals for Martin's Mill.

The Lady Mustangs will travel to North Hopkins on Friday. Fruitvale will next host Cumby.

 

Beckville Edges Timpson

TIMPSON -- Beckville got a big win in District 22-2A, a 38-37 win against Timpson to gain ground in the league.

Scoring was spread nicely over the Bearcats lineup. Summer Dennis led the team with 10 points.

Madi Mize and Kimber Wesner chipped in eight points apiece.

Timpson was led by Jasmine Rogers' 18 points.

Beckville will host Tenaha on Friday. Timpson visits Joaquin.
