Tuesday Softball: State-Ranked Carthage + Elkhart Record Shutout Wins
RUSK -- The fifth-ranked Carthage Lady Dawgs remained unbeaten in District 19-4A with a 7-0 defeat of Rusk on Tuesday.
Samantha Clakley (15-1) turned in an all-round performance for Carthage (17-2, 3-0). She struck out 10, walked one, and allowed just three hits over seven innings, while doubling twice with three RBIs at the plate.
Other offensive standouts for Carthage included: Ashleigh Edge (2-for-2, double, run scored, two HBPs), Kacey Maines (2-for-4, RBI, two runs), Brianna Gwinn (2-for-3, run), Morgan Davis (1-for-4, double, run), Jordyn Morgan (1-for-1, two RBIs), and Kaitlynn Earle (1-for-3, run).
Carthage's season continues Thursday at home against Tatum, while Rusk plays host to Center the same night.
No. 7 Elkhart Blanks Trinity
ELKHART -- The seventh-ranked Elkhart Lady Elks continued to roll with an 8-0 rout of Trinity in District 21-3A action Tuesday.
Camryn Rucker did a little bit of everything for Elkhart (17-1, 7-0) by striking out 14 from the circle and going 2-for-3 with two RBIs at the plate.
Megan Davis was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Robin Grant singled in four trips to the plate.
The Lady Elks are back in action Thursday at Buffalo.
