CARTHAGE -- The Lady Dogs swept John Tyler in the season-opener, 28-26, 25-23, 25-19.

John Tyler (0-1) was led by Kandice Jackson's 20 assists and eight digs. Chenique Baxter had a team-best eight kills and Johnetta Preston was just behind with seven kills.

Lady Lions head coach LaMessa Durrett said she was very pleased with the overall effort. Serving errors were the glaring problem.

All Saints Splits Tri-Match With Kilgore and Longview

KILGORE -- Tyler All Saints split matches with Kilgore and Longview on its first day of the 2014 season and has a 1-1 recording entering the Van Tournament on Friday.

Longview topped the Lady Trojans, 19-25, 25-9, 25-21, 17-25, 15-11 in a match that went the distance to open the day.

In that game, All Saints' Frances Hackney delivered a staggering 41 assists. Ferrell Clyde delivered 15 kills in the effort.

Foster Hackney got the Lady Trogans out of some dicey situations with 16 digs.

All Saints rallied in its second game to sweep Kilgore, 25-18, 25-16, 25-10.

Elizabeth Enloe led the way with 10 aces. Sydney Barrett record eight kills and Frances Hackney put up 21 assists to round out her day with 62.

The Lady Trojans will head to White Oak (1-0) Thursday. White Oak topped Tyler Lee in five sets Tuesday.

Kilgore and Longview stats were not submitted.

 

Gladewater Swept By Mineola

GLADEWATER -- The Lady Bears put up a good fight against Mineola, but fell in three sets.

Mineola won the match 25-18, 25-15, 25-11.

Gladewater's Kaytlin Tant recorded three of the Lady Bears' four aces in addition to two kills. Kasha Shaw had the other ace plus two digs.

The Lady Bears' defensive MVP was Michaela Reid. She recorded four digs and three blocks.

Rayanna Williams and Jessica Meyer each scored two kills.

Gladewater will head to Longview's Lady Lobo Tournament on Thursday. Its first opponent will be Nacogdoches at 9 a.m.

Ore City's Rally Against Redwater Falls Just Short

ORE CITY --  It looked like the Lady Rebels were in trouble after giving up the first two sets against Redwater by 21 total points.

However, Ore City put together a gritty comeback attempt with third and fourth set wins, 25-16, 26-24.

The effort came up just short with Redwater winning the decisive fifth set, 16-14.

Nataya Johnson led the way in Ore City's scoring effort with 17 kills and two assists. Tiera Cook and Gracie Allen had the best all-purpose nights for the Lady Rebels with a combined 17 kills, eight assists, 10 aces and eight digs.

Ore City (0-1) will visit Maud on Friday.

Redwater's stats were not submitted.

 

Henderson Wins Tri-Match Against Liberty Eylau and Marshall

MARSHALL -- Henderson opened its season with back-to-back wins against Liberty-Eylau and Marshall at Marshall High School.

The Lady Lions topped the Liberty-Eylau team in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.

Codie Whitehead led the way with 10 kills and Morgan Weaver was a monster up front with eight blocks in addition to seven kills.

Henderson's Tori Smith recorded 22 assists.

Next up for the Lady Lions was Marshall. Henderson won, 25-18, 25-14, 18-25, 25-22.

Self recorded 25 assists against the Lady Mavericks and Whitehead had six kills, two aces and eight digs. Weaver and Nakia McElhannon led the scoring with nine kills each.

Henderson will play in Longview's Lady Lobo Tournament on Thursday.

 

Overton Sweeps Tatum

OVERTON -- The Lady Mustangs opened their season with a sweep of Tatum in straight sets, 25-12, 25-15, 26-24.

Heather Rainey led Overton with eight kills in addition to four dicks and a block.

Caitlin Boehm saved five points with digs and recorded 21 assists in the win.

Overton (1-0) will play Troup on Thursday.

 

Beckville Gets Past Central Heights In Five Sets

BECKVILLE -- Beckville defeated Central Heights in five sets, 24-26, 25-19, 25-14, 15-25, 15-10.

Carley Lawhorn led the way for the Lady Bearcats with 11 kills. Carson Blair also broke double digits with 10.

Kassidy Alexander recorded 25 assists in the win.

 

Winona Sweeps Center

WINONA -- Winona swept Center, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17.

Outside hitter Kawaii Gordon scored 19 points for Winona in addition to 13 assists. Junior libero DaNita Timmons recorded a team-best 15 digs.

Monday Night: Lindale Sweeps Longview

LINDALE -- The Lady Eagles got off to a nice 2014 start with a sweep against Longview, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19.

Lindale (1-0) was led by Travicia Acy all the way around with 10 kills, three aces and six blocks.

Other standouts included Rhyan Rand and Kamryn Pickton. The duo combined for 12 kills.

Rand recorded two aces and four blocks. Pickton had a four-block night.

 

Monday Night: Sabine Sweeps Beckville

BECKVILLE -- Beckville got the best of Sabine, 25-19, 25-16, 25-7.

Beckville (1-0) recorded 11 aces, highlighted by Carson Blair's three on target serves.

Blair and Kimber Wesner both reached double digit dig figures. Wesner had 28 and Blair finisher her night with 16.

Kassidy Alexander had 19 assists. Madi Mize was not far behind with 12 assists of her own.

Carley Lawhorn led Beckville's way in the kill department with seven.
