LUFKIN -- Whitehouse clinched the third playoff spot in District 16-5A with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-10 win against Lufkin.

The victory gave the Ladycats an 8-4 record within the district and a final regular season record of 20-19. They will face District 15-5A runner-up Longview next week at a time, date and site to be coordinated between the two schools later this week.

Setter Molly Harris recorded 35 assists against Lufkin while Beth Hood led the team in scoring with 14 total points, eight kills, four blocks and two aced serves.

Sydney Malstrom and also broke double-digit scoring with nine kills and two blocks.

Brittany Taylor recorded a team-best 16 digs in the match.

 

Alba-Golden Puts Final Touch On District 14-3A Title

WINONA -- Alba-Golden finished with an 11-1 record in District 14-3A thanks to a three-set sweep of Winona.

The Lady Panthers won, 25-10, 25-20, 25-10.

Caitlin Lennon recorded a team-best 21 assists. CeTara Carter scored 14 kills and five blocks for 19 total points in the match.

Alba-Golden will most likely face Pittsburg in the first round of the playoffs.

 

Beckville Finishes District Schedule Undefeated

BECKVILLE -- The Ladycats, the Texas Girls Coaches Association's No. 2 Class 2A team state wide, finished its District 20-2A slate with a perfect 12-0 record.

Beckville closed the regular season with a 25-3, 25-9, 25-6 victory against Carlisle and now turns its attention to the state playoffs.

Despite the lopsided score, the Ladycats won most of their points on offense. The team recorded 34 kills, 11 aces and four blocks.

Carson Blair led a well-rounded team effort with nine kills and four aced serves. Kinley Blair followed closely, eight kills and four blocks.

The Ladycats' seeding has not been in doubt for two weeks, but things could get interesting in the latter rounds.

Iola, the poll's No. 1 team, also resides in Beckville's Region III. If both teams survive, they will meet Nov. 13 at Longview's Lobo Coliseum with a state tournament berth on the line.

For now, however, there are only two assured matches left on the Ladycats' schedule.

The team will visit Tatum from Class 4A on Friday for a warm up game and then square off in the bi-district round with Union Grove at 6 p.m. Tuesday inside Lobo Coliseum.

 

Hughes Springs Edges Linden-Kildare

LINDEN -- Hughes Springs finished its 2015 season on a high note, a 25-13, 22-25, 25-14, 19-25, 15-12 win at Linden-Kildare.

Peyton Blythe played a hand in 21 points with 16 assists and five kills.

Charlie Reeves served up five aces, and Kennedi Nordam recorded 18 digs on defense.

Linden-Kildare's season also ended Tuesday.
