Tulsa First to Offer Gilmer’s LaMarcus Morton
Gilmer junior receiver LaMarcus Morton became the 12th East Texas recruit in the 2017 class to receive a Division I FBS offer.
Morton (6-2, 175) tweeted news that Tulsa was the first school to make the Buckeyes' standout a recruiting target.
In his first full season on the varsity level, Morton enjoyed breakout success in 2015. He finished with 34 catches for a team-high 589 yards and seven touchdowns in helping Gilmer reach the Class 4A Division II semifinals last December.
Gilmer ultimately dropped a close decision to Celina in the semis, but will have several key standouts returning on the offensive side of the ball in 2016.
The Buckeyes will be members of the new District 7-4A D-II, along with Atlanta, Gladewater, Pittsburg, Pleasant Grove, and Spring Hill.
Morton is the first East Texan in the current recruiting cycle to receive an offer from Tulsa, which signed Alto ATH Keenen Johnson last month.
Tulsa is coached by Philip Montgomery and competes in the American Athletic Conference. Last season, the Golden Hurricane finished 6-7 overall and 3-5 in league play, losing to Virginia Tech (55-52) in the Independence Bowl.
Morton, like all 2017 recruits, cannot officially sign with the school of their choosing until Feb. 1, 2017.
