SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Gladewater Bears crossed the Texas-Louisiana state line with the goal of rebounding from last week's disappointing loss that knocked them out of the state's top 10.

But a poor performance in the first half Saturday afternoon against Bossier City Parkway kept the Bears from getting back into the win column.

Gladewater committed five turnovers -- four before halftime -- in a 47-27 loss during the annual Battle on the Border showcase at Independence Stadium. The Bears (1-2), who lost just twice during 2014's run to the regional semifinals, have now suffered consecutive losses after falling to unbeaten Pittsburg last week.

Parkway (2-0) went into halftime with a 40-6 lead. The Panthers limited Gladewater to just 59 yards of offense, and scored 20 points off Bears turnovers in the game's first 24 minutes.

Gladewater performed much better after the break, outscoring the much deeper Parkway squad, 21-7, in the third and fourth quarters.

But the damage had already been done.

Gladewater's first turnover of the game -- a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown by Parkway's Lloyd Cole -- gave the Panthers a 13-0 lead late in the first quarter. The Bears' following offensive possession ended with a lost fumble, which which was quickly turned into another touchdown and 27-6 Parkway lead seconds into the second quarter.

Parkway capitalized off another Gladewater lost fumble on the Bears' next series, scoring less than a minute later.

The Panthers then drove 78 yards on their final possession of the half, increasing the lead to 40-6 with 54 seconds remaining until intermission.

Gladewater's only touchdown in the first half was junior Darnell McKnight's 90-yard kickoff return that cut the Bears' deficit to 13-6 with 2:07 remaining in the opening quarter.

That was as close as Gladewater got to Parkway for the remainder of the game.

Parkway senior quarterback and Louisiana Tech commit Keondre Wudtee led the Panthers' offensive attack. He completed 13 of 22 passes for 243 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while also rushing for a touchdown.

Fellow Panthers senior C.J. Morgan, who is pledged to Mississippi State, caught three passes for 102 yards, while the backfield combination of tailback Robert McKnight and fullback E.J. Williams combined to rush for 180 yards.

Robert McKnight, a junior, ran eight times for 101 yards and three touchdowns, and caught three passes for 45 yards and another score.

Gladewater, which picked up 237 second-half yards to finish with 296 on the day, was led by senior tailback Marcello Jackson, who rushed for 183 yards -- 175 after halftime -- and a touchdown on 24 carries. Senior fullback Justice Centers added 76 yards on 17 carries -- all in the first half.

Despite the final outcome, Gladewater's defense managed to force five turnovers of its own, including linebacker Michael Batchelor's 31-yard fumble return for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Isaiah Davis and Austin Hawley recorded interceptions, while Darnell McKnight and Shawn Johnson added second-half fumble recoveries.

Gladewater is back in action next Friday night at Carthage, while Parkway's season resumes the same night at home against Shreveport Huntington.

Gladewater's Darnell McKnight returns a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of the Bears' 47-27 loss to Bossier City Parkway on Saturday in Shreveport, La.
