UCLA Extends Nacogdoches’ Jaylon Lane Yet Another Offer

Another day, another offer for Nacogdoches' Jaylon Lane. The Dragons 2015 cornerback picked up his 36th FBS offer Friday when the UCLA Bruins gave the big, physical and rangy DB an invitation.

Lane (6-2, 185), who did not receive his first offer until Feb. 24 and now has 15 more than any other player in East Texas, announced the offer via Twitter.

The Nac playmaker's offer sheet now consists of three Pac-12 schools -- Arizona State, UCLA and Washington State. Lane also now has offers from 23 unique states, while UCLA became the 55th different FBS program to offer an East Texas prospect in the 2015 class.

The Bruins program, under coach Jim Mora Jr., is on the upswing. UCLA was 10-3 with a Sun Bowl victory last season, which followed a 9-5 campaign in 2012.

Expectations will be high in his native Nacogdoches for Lane after a solid junior season at Central High School in San Angelo, which included five interceptions, 46 tackles and an average of nearly 46 yards on five kickoff returns.

Lane will join forces with Jones, younger brother and 2016 safety Corey Lane (Louisiana Tech offer) and 2015 cornerback Tay Forest to form a potentially lethal Dragons defensive back this fall.

With several other key pieces returning from last season’s 7-4 playoff team — Nacogdoches’ first postseason squad since 2006 — the potential exists for the Dragons to build upon 2013 and become a force in the new 16-5A, which features perennial powers Ennis, John Tyler, Lufkin and Whitehouse.
