ULM Offers Palestine’s Ben Luckett + Jarrell Owens

The Louisiana-Monroe football program has been active in East Texas in recent weeks. That continued Thursday when the Warhawks offered two Palestine 2014 prospects.

Running back Ben Luckett and linebacker Jarrell Owens received ULM offers Thursday, according to the Palestine coaching staff. The Palestine Herald-Press first reported the offers.

The 6-foot-3, 238-pound Owens already holds an offer from Texas Tech, which offered him a few weeks ago. A nagging injury limited Owens in 2012, when he primarily played running back and ran for 283 yards and eight touchdowns on 60 carries. Owens has been recruited on both sides of the ball, but his likely college destination is linebacker or defensive end.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Luckett ran 72 times for a 426 yards and seven touchdowns in 2012, when the Wildcats finished 7-4 with a Class 3A Division I Region III first-round playoff appearance. Palestine lost 30-27 to Carthage after trailing by two scores for most of the game.

Luckett and Owens are the fifth and sixth East Texans in the 2014 class to receiver offers from ULM, joining Carthage receivers Terian "Tee" Goree and O'Keeron Rutherford, Newton athlete Kevin Shorter, and Elkhart running back Jeffery Wilson. The Warhawks signed Longview 2013 quarterback Bivins Caraway.
