Hunter Redmond isn't a name that has saturated all of East Texas, but the senior linebacker is nearing the midway point of the regular season with some of the best stats in all of East Texas.

Redmond led the Vandals with 21 tackles in Friday's 52-8 win against Brownsboro. Two of his tackles were for losses. One was a sack.

He also forced a fumble in the game.

Van's linebacker is the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week.

Redmond leads the East Texas region with 67 tackles through four weeks, an average of about 17 tackles per game. It's a remarkably good number for anyone, let alone a 6-1 and 152-pound linebacker.

Redmond's high performance numbers aren't limited to on-the-field activities. He's in contention for valedictorian of his senior class.

The Vandals are 4-0 for the first time since 2011 and have not allowed more than a touchdown in three games against other Class 4A teams. They'll host Paris North Lamar on Friday to wrap up non-district play.
