Volleyball Roundup: Carthage, Kilgore Claim Wins Against 4A Competition

MARSHALL -- The Carthage Lady Bulldogs finished off non-district with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 sweep of Marshall on Tuesday.

Iesha Bryant led the way for Carthage with 18 kills and four blocks. Shelby Soape added nine kills and 21 digs, while Kenzi Tate provided 30 assists.

Carthage begins District 20-3A Friday at Diboll. Marshall plays host to Texas High in its District 14-4A opener.

Kilgore Takes Down Jacksonville in Four

JACKSONVILLE -- The Kilgore Lady Bulldogs defeated Jacksonville in four games Tuesday night, 25-27, 25-16, 25-19, 25-14.

Tony Burks led the way for Kilgore (11-14) with 16 kills, three blocks and two digs. Destiny Washington added 10 kills and eight digs and Annie Mehringer filled the stat sheet with 10 kills, 23 digs and three aces.

Nichole Flores added 24 digs, while Sarah Mendenhall registered a career-high 36 assists to go along with 14 digs.

Kilgore returns to District 16-3A play Friday at Henderson, while Jacksonville opens 16-4A at John Tyler.

Gilmer Edges Henderson in Five-Game District Opener

GILMER -- Gilmer roared back from a two-game deficit to beat Henderson 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-13 on Tuesday night.

Kami McCaw led Henderson with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Tiarra Davis had 10 kills. Karley Free had 10 kills and 19 assists, and Christa Thomas dished out 14 assists. Brooke Towe had 10 digs. Codie Whitehead and Katie Phipps had two blocks apiece.

Arp Scores Five-Game Road Victory Over Frankston

FRANKSTON -- Arp hit the road and got a win Tuesday night, edging Frankston in a five-game thriller, 25-7, 21-25, 25-14, 19-25, 15-5.

Sheyenne Atchley led Arp with 25 kills, while Lauren Littlefield added 15 kills, five digs, and two blocks. Alicia Summers had nine assists and 25 digs. Taylor Burnett added 10 kills, and Kaci Kuykendall had two kills and 17 digs. Rebecca Daniels dished out 18 assists and had five digs.

Arp's Mikayla Frost had 12 digs, and Jessica Daniel had six digs.

Overton Bests Beckville in Four Games

OVERTON -- Beckville's Ivy Rieke had 11 kills and six aces, and teammate Shelbi Dodson added nine kills, but Overton protected homecourt in a 27-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-15 win against the Ladycats on Tuesday night.

Beckville (13-9, 3-1) got eight kills from Taylor Lindsay and seven kills, five digs, and two aces from Carson Blair. Emma Smith dished out 18 assists for the Ladycats, who host Carlisle on Friday.

Tyler Grace Takes Care of Cedar Hill Trinity Christian

TYLER -- The Tyler Grace Lady Cougars remained perfect in TAPPS District 2-4A with a 25-10, 25-10, 20-25, 25-17 victory over Cedar Hill Trinity Christian on Tuesday.

Rilee Miller sparked Grace (12-4, 3-0) with 16 kills, 10 digs and 24 assists. Emma Yeatts contributed with six kills and 20 assists.

Grace is back in action Monday against crosstown rival Tyler All Saints. The match will be contested at UT Tyler's Herrington Patriot Center.
