MARSHALL -- The Longview Lady Lobos scored wins over Chapel Hill and Marshall in volleyball action Tuesday night.

Longview defeated Chapel Hill 25-21, 23-25, 25-10, 25-22 and Marshall 25-10, 25-13, 25-18.

In the win over Chapel Hill, Longview was led by sophomore Halee Brewer's 11 kills and four blocks. Jonae Thompson added 11 kills and 10 aces, while Kaitlyn Adams supplied nine kills to go along with two blocks.

A'kia Mumphrey registered 36 assists, three aces and two kills on the night, while Jordan Houser contributed two kills and four aces from the service line.

Against Marshall, Thompson led the way with 11 kills, seven digs and two aces. Brewer added six kills and an ace, NaQwavian Nelson had six kills and one ace and Bradyn Jenkins and Aleesha Coffer combined for six kills.

Mumphrey added 33 assists and a pair of kills, while Kiana Glasper provided the defense with eight digs.

Longview is back in action at home against Hallsville on Thursday before playing in the Marshall tournament on Friday and Saturday. Chapel Hill is at the Wills Point tournament Friday and Saturday.

 

Carthage 3, Whitehouse 2

CARTHAGE -- The Carthage Lady Dawgs opened the season a week ago with four-set loss to John Tyler, but it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Junior outside hitter Iesha Bryant registered 22 kills and seven blocks to lead Carthage to an impressive 25-18, 26-28, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10 victory over Whitehouse on Tuesday night.

Carthage (7-2) has now won seven of eight, the only loss coming to White Oak in the semifinals of the Carthage tournament last weekend.

Shelby Soape added 14 kills, while Amber Weatherford and Jordan Holmes combined for 15. Kenzie Tate provided 46 assists on the night to go with 21 digs.

Along with Tate, Carthage received stellar defense from Morgan Wedgeworth, who had a team-high 24 digs. Saope followed closely with 18.

The Lady Dawgs hope the hot streak continues this weekend at the Groveton tournament Thursday-Saturday. Whitehosue returns to the court Aug. 28 when it hosts a dual match with Longview and Texas High.

 

Rusk 3, Jacksonville 0

RUSK -- The Rusk Lady Eagles scored a 25-19, 25-21, 25-20 sweep of Jacksonville on Tuesday night.

Rusk was led by Chelsie Daniels' nine kills, Shayla Townsend's seven blocks, 17 digs from Bailee Gates and Juliann Bowling's 24 assists. Gabby Willis added four aces.

Rusk returns to the court Thursday at Tyler Lee, while Jacksonville participates in the Groveton tournament Thursday-Saturday.

 

Bullard 3, Huntington 0

BULLARD -- It may have gone down as a sweep, but the Bullard Lady Panthers were tested in their 27-25, 25-15, 27-25 defeat of Huntington on Tuesday night.

Bullard (5-5) fell behind 23-19 in Game 1 and 24-21 in the final game before coming back to win.

"We showed a lot of fight and perseverance tonight in close situations," Bullard coach Ben Belshaw said. "Huntington was scrappy and tough, but we overcame and were just a little tougher. We pushed through for a good home victory."

Meredith Daly led the way with 16 kills, five blocks and five digs. Mackenzie Fish was 9 for 9 serving and registered 10 kills, three aces and 12 digs. Bri Ridgley went 14 for 14 at the service line with two aces and 19 assists, Mallory McCoy provided 12 assists and Madi Hodges came through with a great defensive effort with 16 digs.

Bullard continues it season Friday at Troup.

 

Elysian Fields 3, Beckville 1

ELYSIAN FIELDS -- Beckville dropped a four-set decision to Elysian Fields on Tuesday night, 26-24, 24-26, 25-20, 25-18.

Taylor Lindsay and Ivy Rieke combined for 24 kills, Emma Smith and Montana Searcy teamed for 38 assists and Maya Bradford was solid on defense with 29 digs in the losing effort.

Beckville, which fell to 4-5 on the season, takes part in the Playoff Preview Tournament in Overton. Elysian Fields, meanwhile, will be at the Marshall tournament Thursday-Saturday.

 

Overton 3, Sabine 1

OVERTON -- Abby Mackey had 23 kills, 13 digs and four aces to lead Overton past Sabine 25-19, 26-24, 18-25, 25-23 on Tuesday night.

Savannah Bobbitt added 32 assists and five digs, Heather Raney came away with nine kills, seven digs and two aces and Nekia Chappell provided six kills and four digs.

Overton is participating in the Playoff Preview Tournament this weekend in Overton.

 

Avery 3, Hughes Springs 0

HUGHES SPRINGS -- The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs were swept by Avery 25-16, 25-14, 25-10 on Tuesday night.

Hughes Springs was led by Tara Ellis, who provided eight kills, one block and five digs. Ashlin Roach and Breanne Gunn combined for nine kills on the night, while Kayla Watkins contributed a team-high 13 assists.

The Lady Mustangs resume play this weekend at the Redwater tournament on Thursday and Saturday.
