OVERTON -- New Diana improved to 10-3 this season with a trio of victories Thursday at the Overton Tournament.

The Lady Eagles beat Quitman 25-11, 25-9 behind Courtney Rogers' 11 kills and five digs and Cheyenne Spell's four kills, five assists, five digs, and five aces. Madison Sampson had two kills, one block, 11 assists, and one ace, while Kayli Morvan had 10 digs.

New Diana also beat Gary 25-6, 25-15 and Fruitvale 25-14, 25-14. Rogers had nine kills, one block, and three digs against Gary, adding 15 kills and six digs against Fruitvale. Spell had two kills, seven digs, and two aces against Gary and three kills, six assists, and seven digs against Fruitvale.

Sampson had a combined 28 assists, nine digs, and seven aces in those two matches. Jessica Hampton had three kills, one block, and two aces in the Gary match, while Kayli Morvan had eight digs against Fruitvale.

New Diana plays in the championship bracket of the Overton Tournament starting at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Kilgore wins three matches at ETBU Tournament

MARSHALL -- Kilgore swept two opponents and beat another Thursday at the ETBU Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Daingerfield 25-18, 25-18 thanks in part to Annie Mehringer's six kills and one ace, as well as Taylor Stewart's five kills and two aces. Tony Burks added four kills. Sarah Mendenhall dished out 15 assists, and Nichole Flores had a match-high 12 digs.

After dropping the first game, Kilgore (6-6) came back to beat Marshall 27-29, 25-22, 25-20. Mendenhall had 30 assists, five digs, and one ace, while Mehringer racked up 18 kills, 12 digs, and three aces. Flores chipped in 16 digs.

Kilgore's third match saw the Lady Bulldogs beat Jefferson 25-19, 25-21 behind Burks' eight kills and Mehringer's five kills, seven digs, and two aces. Mendenhall had four kills and 14 assists, and Flores had six digs.

Kilgore continues play in the ETBU Tournament on Saturday morning in the championship bracket.

The Daingerfield Lady Tigers were defeated in all three of their matches Thursday at the ETBU volleyball tournament.

Daingerfield (2-7) lost to Jefferson (25-21, 18-25, 30-29) and Marshall (25-21, 25-22) in addition to its loss to Kilgore.

Carthage continues hot streak with three wins at Groveton tournament

GROVETON -- The Carthage Lady Dawgs continued to shine in the early season by taking three games on the first day of the Groveton tournament on Thursday.

Carthage (10-2) defeated Trinity 25-13, 25-16, Corrigan-Camden 25-10, 25-20 and Jacksonville 25-18, 25-18.

Iesha Bryant led the way with 27 kills and six blocks in the three matches. Kenzi Tate added 51 assists, Shelby Soape came through with 11 kills, five aces and 15 digs and Morgan Wedgeworth provided solid defense with 39 digs.

The Lady Dawgs resume play in the Groveton tourney Friday and Saturday.
