Volleyball Roundup: Pine Tree Outlasts Texas High in Five Games

LONGVIEW — The Pine Tree Lady Pirates remained unbeaten in District 14-4A with a hard-fought, five-game victory over Texas High on Tuesday.

Behind 17 kills from sophomore Sky Holmes, Pine Tree outlasted Texas High 25-23, 15-25, 24-26, 25-16, 15-12.

Emily Shelton poured in 42 assists, while Devin Assenheimer had 10 kills. Kennedy Sampson added 24 digs, while Angel Jordan registered 14.

Pine Tree (22-5, 2-0) continues its season Friday at Mount Pleasant.

Carthage Remains Unbeaten in 20-3A With Win at Huntington

HUNTINGTON — The Carthage Lady Dawgs took down Huntington on Tuesday in District 20-3A action, 17-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-17.

Amber Weatherford led Carthage (2-0 in district) with 13 kills and three blocks. Marisah Ingram added 11 kills and four blocks. Shelby Soape provided 11 kills and 16 digs, Iesha Bryant chipped in with 10 kills and six blocks and Kenzi Tate had 42 assists.

Carthage returns the court Oct. 2 at home against Diboll.

Van Takes Out Mineola in Four

MINEOLA — The Van Lady Vandals earned a four-game victory over Mineola, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-22, on Tuesday night in District 15-3A competition.

Rebekah Rogers led Van with 13 kills. Haley McCarty added 10 kills, five blocks and 13 digs. Also standing out for Van were: Bri Thompson (11 kills, five blocks), Susannah Wisdom (nine kills, two blocks, 10 digs), Morgan Wilkerson (41 assists, 10 digs) and Hallee Carter (14 digs).

Van (27-3, 2-0) returns to action Friday at home against Canton. Mineola, meanwhile, plays host to Mabank.

Kilgore Makes Quick Work of Gladewater

GLADEWATER — The Kilgore Lady Bulldogs earned a 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 sweep of Gladewater on Tuesday in District 16-3A action.

Kilgore was led by Sarah Mendenhall’s 18 assists and seven digs. Tony Burks registered five kills and seven digs, Annie Mehringer added nine kills, 17 digs and four aces and Nichole Flores provided 25 digs on defense.

The Lady Bulldogs (12-15, 2-2) return home Friday to face fourth-ranked Spring Hill.

Beckville Falls to Gary in Five Games

GARY — Gary outlasted Beckville in five games, 25-17, 10-25, 25-23, 12-25, 16-14, Tuesday night in District 20-A action.

Shelbi Dodson led Beckville with 23 kills and 24 digs. Taylor Lindsay added 16 kills and 23 digs and Carson Blair provided 13 kills and 18 digs. Montana Searcy and Emma Smith each assisted on 20 points in the losing effort.

Beckville (14-10), which fell to 4-2 in district action, returns to the court Oct. 2 at Big Sandy.
