TYLER -- The John Tyler Lions got off to a good start at the Wagstaff Holiday Classic with a 68-44 victory over North Forney on Thursday at Tyler Junior College's Wagstaff Gym.

Jordan Caldwell led the Lions (7-5) with 21 points, while Darren Farmer added 13. Kevron Jackson and Isaac Warren scored eight points apiece to aid in the winning effort.

North Forney (8-5) was led by Parrish Price's eight points.

John Tyler faces Athens at 7 p.m. Friday in the winner's bracket, while North Forney takes on Bullard Brook Hill in loser's bracket action at noon Friday as action at the tournament continues.

No. 23 Athens 73, No. 8 Bullard Brook Hill 57

The 23rd-ranked Athens Hornets coasted to a 73-57 victory over Bullard Brook Hill, behind Ryan Jefferson's 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Courtland Lyons added 20 points for Athens (13-1), while Anthony Sanders finished with 15 points, six assists and five steals.

Grant Hanks led Brook Hill (10-8), ranked No. 8 in the small private schools classification by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, with 22 points. Alex Hale contributed 15 points in the loss.

Whitehouse 73, Tyler All Saints 58

The Whitehouse Wildcats handed Tyler All Saints its second loss of the season with a 73-58 win.

The Wildcats (12-3), playing without injured standout Patrick Mahomes, was led by Spencer Shaw's 23 points. Brady Hill added 15 points, Jaylon Dews contributed 13 points and Isaiah Clark finished with 11 in the win.

All Saints (20-2) was led in defeat by Aston Francis, who poured in a game-high 25 points. Jaired Maddox added 14 points in the losing effort.

Whitehouse continues on in the winner's bracket when it faces Houston Redemption Christian at 8:30 p.m. Friday. All Saints will face Lindale at 1:30 p.m. Friday in loser's bracket action.

Houston Redemption Christian 58, Lindale 49

Houston Redemption Christian secured a 58-49 victory over Lindale.

Niji Washington led Redemption (14-9) with 16 points, while Juston Smith-Wells added 15 in the win. Troy Jones and Patrick Hawkins added 10 points apeice.

Lindale (8-7) was led by Jacob Capo's 15 points. Jordan Gray contributed 12 points, while Court Brown finished with 11 in the losing effort.

Troup 58, Tyler Bishop Gorman 51

The Troup Tigers began the day with a 58-51 victory over the Crusaders of Tyler Bishop Gorman.

Troup was led by Marcus Kincade, who finished with 14 points. Anfernee Ross added 11 points, Lou Roberson had 10 points and Brandon Hearon finished with nine points in the win.

Gorman got 14 points from Sean Goforth, while Garrett Thibodeaux added 12 points in the losing effort.

Troup advanced to the winner's bracket where it will meet Brownsboro at 3 p.m. Friday. Gorman will face Bullard at 9 a.m. Friday in the loser's bracket.

Brownsboro 39, Bullard 37

The Brownsboro Bears held off a fourth-quarter rally to edge Bullard, 39-37.

Brownsboro, which led 31-21 entering the fourth, was able to withstand the Panthers' 16-point final period.

Will Bailey led Brownsboro with 17 points, while Quentin McKenzie added 10.

Bullard was paced by Andrew Thomas, who finished with 16 points. Hunter Landrum chipped in with 11 points in the losing effort.

Chapel Hill 67, Tyler King's Academy 51

The Chapel Hill Bulldogs rolled to a 67-51 victory over Tyler King's Academy.

Keith Minor led Chapel Hill with 16 points. Jeffery Minor added 13 points, Keilon Moore had 10, while D.D. Mumphrey and Sir Cedric Suell finished with eight points apiece.

King's Academy was led by Levi Taylor, who finished with a game-high 17 points. Benjamin Flanders added 10 points in the losing effort.

Chapel Hill will face Tyler Grace at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the winner's bracket, while King's Academy takes on Van at 10:30 a.m. Friday in loser's bracket action.

Tyler Grace 89, Van 51

The Tyler Grace Cougars had no trouble in dispatching of Van by the score of 89-51.

Grace was led by the duo of Verlo Levels and Trevor Gunter, who finished with 31 and 27 points, respectively. Andrew Melhart added 10 points in the win, while Phillip McKinney contributed nine points.

Layton Myers led Van with 14 points. Carson Rucker added nine points, while Brock Moore finished with eight in the losing effort.
