A history-making season for Waskom ended in some of its league’s top awards with the release of the 9-2A Division II all-district football team as voted by coaches.

Junior standout Kevin Johnson earned the district’s Most Valuable Player award after rushing for almost 1,900 yards and 26 touchdowns and recording 137 tackles, two interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns on the other side of the ball.

Fellow Waskom junior June Bug Johnson, who accounted for almost 2,000 yards of total offense, garnered the district’s Offensive MVP award. The Johnson duo helped Waskom start the season 14-0 before falling to perennial power Refugio in the Class 2A Division II state semifinals, the Wildcats’ first trip to the final four in school history.
