Week 2 2A Poll: Tatum, Newton Keep Stranglehold on Top 2 Spots
A big third-quarter pushed Tatum past Winnsboro to keep the Eagles No. 1 in the ETSN 2A Top 10.
Tatum's 22-14 win at Winnsboro fueled by three third-quarter scores pushes the Eagles to 2-0 entering this week's home game against Pleasant Grove. The No. 2 spot remained in the clutches of another group of Eagles from Newton (2-0), who hammered Liberty 64-13 this past Friday.
Daingerfield (1-1) moved up one spot to third following a 17-13 win at Atlanta, while Arp (1-1) skipped from fifth to fourth with a 40-6 win against Paul Pewitt.
New Boston (2-0) ascended one spot from sixth to fifth with a 33-0 shutout of Pleasant Grove. Hughes Springs (2-0) jumped to spots from eighth to sixth following the Mustangs' 55-27 win against Hooks. Winnsboro's 22-14 loss to Tatum was enough to keep the Red Raiders (1-1) in the No. 7 slot.
Jefferson (2-0) broke into the top 10 at No. 8 with its 21-20 win against Elysian Fields (1-1), which plummeted from No. 3 in last week's poll to No. 9 this week. Another newcomer to the poll, Harmony (1-1), used a 50-0 win against Como-Pickton to take over the No. 10 spot.
Garrison lost its No. 10 spot in last week's poll* following an 18-6 loss to Tenaha.
* -- Last week's poll and the preseason poll were combined 2A/1A polls, but starting with this week's polls, those classifications will be ranked separately
