Week 2 3A Poll: Kilgore Ascends to No. 1

Kilgore's defense impressed for the second consecutive week, and combined with Gilmer's loss at Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy, the Bulldogs' neutral-site win against Sweeny propelled Kilgore to No. 1 in the ETSN Week 2 3A Top 10.

Kilgore's 24-7 win over Sweeny gives the Bulldogs (2-0) a 66-7 advantage of their first two opponents. Carthage (1-1) capitalized on a 38-21 win against Lindale and Gilmer's 42-12 loss at Prestonwood to move up a spot from No. 3 to No. 2, while the Buckeyes (1-1) fell from first to fourth.

Palestine (1-1) sneaked into the top three with its 37-20 win against Jacksonville.

The fifth and sixth spots remained the same. No. 5 Gladewater (2-0) held its top-five ranking with a thrilling 35-34 win against Pittsburg, and No. 6 Henderson (1-1) rebounded from its season-opening loss to Prestonwood with a 26-14 win at Nacogdoches.

Jasper and Rusk jumped two spots apiece. Jasper (2-0) moved from No. 9 to No. 7 with a 55-7 blowout of Orangefield, the Bulldogs' second rout in as many weeks. Rusk (2-0) leapt from No. 10 to No. 8 with its second blowout, this one a 35-13 decision against Crockett.

Two newcomers to the poll round out this week's edition: No. 9 Bullard and No. 10 Center. Bullard (2-0) crushed White Oak 52-6, and Center (2-0) pounded Pine Tree 42-16.

Chapel Hill (0-2), ranked seventh last week, fell out of the poll following a 38-14 loss to Whitehouse. Last week's No. 8 team Van (1-1)  also fell from the top 10 after its 38-13 loss at Hallsville.
