West Rusk Linebacker Tyree Wilson Adds ULM Offer

Louisiana-Monroe logged an active Wednesday within East Texas.

West Rusk junior linebacker Tyree Wilson was one of two local players in the Class of 2018 to hear from the Warhawks and reported his latest offer through his personal Twitter account. Kilgore receiver Jonathan Shepherd also heard from head coach Matt Viator and company.

ULM's football scholarship invitation for Wilson (6-5, 225) is the linebacker's fourth choice among NCAA Division I FBS schools. While he's verbally committed to Washington State, he holds other offers from Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas State.

Wilson was a force on West Rusk’s Class 3A Division II bi-district team last season. He made 68 solo tackles, including 13 for loss, and assisted six other tackles in 11 games as part of a linebacking corps that cannibalized each other’s stats.

In addition to 74 total tackles, Wilson forced two fumbles and returned one interception 34 yards for a touchdown.

ULM improved under Viator in his first season. It jumped from a two-win team in 2015 to a 4-8 squad last season.

Viator joined the program after spending the previous 10 seasons with McNeese State at the FCS level. He enjoyed five playoff appearances with his former team, including a trip to the second round of the postseason his final year.

The Warhawks have a good track record of pulling local athletes from the region. Gladewater defensive back Austin Hawley and Longview safety Traveion Webster both signed with the program in February and are slated to join five other East Texans on the 2017 roster.

Wilson, like all college football prospects currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in February of 2018.
