CANTON -- The White Oak Roughnecks used a nine-run fourth inning to defeat the Canton Eagles, 13-6, in the second game of the I-20 Baseball Classic on Thursday.

Hunter Owens went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Lane Newton went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Erik Owen added three hits to the White Oak (7-2-1) onslaught.

White Oak trailed, 5-2, to begin the fourth, but erupted for nine runs on six hits in the crucial inning, highlighted by Newton's two-RBI single and Cody Owens two-run double. The Roughnecks added two more in the fifth with Josh White and Owen RBI singles.

"We try to break it down into seven, one-inning games,' said White Oak coach Charles Foshee. "We don't get worried when we're down. We know we're going to hit the ball, we are going to put pressure on defenses. Our pitchers are going to throw strikes and we're going to compete, one pitch at a time. We want to be able to get those big innings, and they never feel like they're ever out of any game. They'll battle to the very end."

Four of Foshee's starters are still playing basketball, as the White Oak hoops team is competing in the UIL state tournament in Austin this weekend. So, Foshee threw Mickey McFall on the hill and the starter went six innings, yielding six runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Canton (9-5) starter Chris Worley was solid for three innings, but White Oak chased him during its big fourth inning. Worley went three 2-3 innings and gave up seven earned runs, six hits and walked five. Teammates Nick Hobbs and Grady Priest highlighted a two-run third inning with RBI singles.

After White Oak plated two runs in the first, Canton's Ryan Casey stroked a bases-clearing double to the gap in left-center in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs. Casey finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
