White Oak senior volleyball standout Dorothy Swanson was named American Volleyball Coaches Association Texas Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 3, according to Ladyneck coach Carolee Musick.

Swanson had 90 kills and 15 blocks during White Oak's seven matches that week, which included a 3-0 sweep of New Diana and a 4-2 record at the Ladynecks' Shirley Atkins Tournament. The AVCA selects one player in the state through stats entered on MaxPreps.com for each week's award, and Musick said she got confirmation today of Swanson's honor.

Swanson had 20 kills in a Sept. 4 sweep of New Diana, then 12 kills, four blocks, and an ace in a Sept. 7 tournament win against Quitman. Six of White Oak's seven matches during the week of Sept. 3 were two-game matches, but Swanson had no fewer than seven kills in any of them.

Swanson and White Oak improved to 27-4 overall and 6-0 in district play Tuesday night with a 25-21, 25-11, 25-10 home sweep of Ore City. The Ladynecks are ranked No. 7 in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 2A Poll. White Oak travels to Union Grove on Friday before hosting New Diana on Tuesday.
