WHITEHOUSE -- Whitehouse ISD has hired a former area standout to lead its girls basketball program.

Melanie Lane, a former John Tyler star, will head the LadyCats, replacing Rosalyn Tindell. The decision to hire Lane was made by WISD administrators on Tuesday morning.

Lane, a 2002 graduate of JT, was most recently an assistant girls basketball and track coach at Irving High School. She also previously served as girls head coach at Fort Worth Tremble Tech where she compiled a record of 114-50.

After a four-year varsity career at John Tyler, Lane moved on to UTA where she was a member of the Mavericks' first Southland Conference championship team in school history back in 2005.

Whitehouse finished 11-15 overall and 2-8 in District 16-4A last season. The LadyCats will compete in the new 16-5A this year along with Corsicana, Jacksonville, John Tyler, Lindale, Lufkin and Nacogdoches.

“We are very excited to welcome Coach Lane as our head girls basketball coach,” said Whitehouse athletic director Richard Peacock. “Her passion, excitement and love for basketball is very evident. We look forward to great things to come from our girls basketball program.”
