The previous 10 weeks of the high school football season have been building to this.

The unbeaten Whitehouse Wildcats (9-0, 4-0 in District 16-4A) take on the No. 2 John Tyler Lions (8-1, 4-0) on Friday night at Tyler's Rose Stadium in the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Game of the Week.

While the outcome will have no bearing on playoff seeding -- John Tyler is the No. 1 seed in the 4A Division I playoffs and Whitehouse the top seed in Division II -- the winner will have bragging rights for a year in this rivalry that's been building since the Lions' drop to 4A in 2010.

The Wildcats, led by junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his talented, four-deep corps of receivers, are enjoying the best start to a season in school history. Whitehouse is averaging 44.9 points and 454.8 yards per game.

John Tyler, which entered the season as heavy favorites to win its first state championship since 1994, was ranked No. 1 in the state for a week before its 26-21 loss to Lancaster on Sept. 7. The Lions have reeled off seven straight wins since, outscoring its four district opponents, 207-28.

We’ll be live from the game with KLTV to bring you the preview at 6 p.m. on channel 7 and again with KLTV on the Red Zone postgame show, along with plenty of other highlights and insight from games across East Texas — and, of course, right here on ETSN.fm.
