Mahomes has picked up an offer from Texas Tech to play quarterback, the position where he burst onto the scene as a first-year starter in 2012.

Mahomes threw for 3,839 yards, which was second in East Texas behind John Tyler quarterback and Houston commit Greg Ward (4,202). Mahomes led East Texas with 46 touchdown passes and only nine interceptions. He also ran for 258 yards and six touchdowns in leading the Wildcats to a 10-2 record that included a 9-0 start. Whitehouse's two losses were by seven points apiece to Class 4A Division I state semifinalist John Tyler and Class 4A Division II Region II semifinalist Wylie East.

Mahomes is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound multi-sport star. He leads Whitehouse's basketball team with 19.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 steals per game. He's second on the team with 3.4 assists per game.

Mahomes is also a standout baseball player at shortstop and pitcher. He holds offers for baseball from Arkansas and Arizona.
