What's better than recording more than 10 tackles? A game-winning defensive play.

Winona's Chase Boyd was able to accomplish all of the above Friday in a 22-20, District 8-3A Division II win against Arp. He blocked Arp's late field goal attempt in addition to his strong number of tackles.

For his efforts, he's the latest ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week.

Arp lined up for a game-winning field goal with 12 seconds left in the game. Boyd's block removed all doubt in the outcome.

The junior linebacker also was a defensive force through the game with four tackles for loss and 14 tackles overall.

Winona wrote one of the best midseason stories in East Texas. The program was 1-9 last year and has worked its way to a 4-1 record this campaign.

The Wildcats will enter this week's game against undefeated West Rusk in a three-way tie for first place within their district. Both teams have 2-0 district records.

Waskom, the 2014 Class 3A Division I state champion, also currently sits at the top of the league standings.

If Boyd and the rest of Winona's defense buckles down again this week to upend West Rusk, the Wildcats can seriously start to think about postseason chances for the first time in three seasons.
