The Winona Wildcats are enjoying their best season in almost 30 years, and the magic continued last week with a 51-12 blowout of Leonard in their Class 3A Division II area playoff.

Senior running back Deundre Wheeler was the biggest star of the night, running for a school-record 340 yards and five touchdowns in the win, which sent Winona (7-5) to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 1987.

For his efforts, Wheeler (5-10, 210) is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week. He follows last week's winner, John Tyler quarterback Bryson Smith.

Wheeler did his damage on 30 carries, and will enter this week's regional semifinal playoff game against Whitewright (8-4) with a team-best 1,245 yards and 22 touchdowns on 158 attempts.

Kickoff for Friday's contest is set for 7:30 p.m. from Forney's City Bank Stadium.
