Texas High quarterback Cade Pearson became the 23rd local junior player with at least one FBS scholarship opportunity thanks to an offer from Wyoming.

Pearson announced his first-ever FBS offer, and his fifth overall invitation to a Division I program, through his personal Twitter account Thursday evening.

Wyoming joined a portfolio also featuring Southland Conference schools Incarnate Word, McNeese State, Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. Second-year head coach Craig Bohl led the 2015 Wyoming team to a 2-10 overall record.

Bohl, however, is not a losing coach. Prior to joining the Laramie, Wyo., based program in 2014, he guided North Dakota State to straight FCS championship game wins in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Former Pleasant Grove linebacker Lucas Wacha was the most recent East Texas player to attend Wyoming. He exhausted eligibility last season.

In addition to Pearson, Wyoming has standing offers out for Tyler Bishop Gorman receiver Judah Bell and Nacogdoches cornerback Josh Thompson. Both players are currently uncommitted.

Pearson (6-3, 193) is preparing for his third and final season as Texas High’s starter under center. He has guided the school to a 15-7 overall record, including two Class 5A Division I bi-district round playoff appearances and a shared District 15-5A title with Longview and Marshall last year.

The signal caller produced nearly identical numbers as a sophomore and as a junior. He posted a two-to-one touchdowns to interceptions ratio and threw for a little more than 1,600 yards in both seasons.

Texas High's new district will feature a shift mostly in name only following the University Interscholastic League's biennial realignment process in February. Longview — which won at least a share of the District 15-5A title the past two seasons — jumped to Class 6A while Greenville, Hallsville, Marshall, Mount Pleasant, Pine Tree and Sulphur Springs remained alongside Texas High to make up the new District 16-5A.

Pearson, like all players currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him on Feb 1., 2017.
