LUFKIN — The Alto Yellow Jackets had two players eclipse the 200-yard rushing mark in their Class A Division I Region III area-round playoff Thursday night.

Quarterback Zac Sturns rushed for 223 yards and the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, running back Jacolby Whitaker added 216 yards and five touchdowns and Alto secured a thrilling 47-42 victory over Hull-Daisetta at Abe Martin Stadium.

Alto (9-3) will play either Carlisle or Bosqueville, who play Friday night, in a regional semifinal next week.

Sturns and Whitaker weren't the only 200-yard rushers. Hull-Daisetta quarterback Cade Huckabay ran for 210 yards and five touchdowns, including a 70-yard score on his first attempt of the night. He also tossed a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Alto carried a 41-35 lead into the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets defense stopped Hull-Daisetta on a fourth-and-1 at the Alto 23 with more than five minutes remaining, but Alto was intercepted on its ensuing possession.

Hull-Daisetta (4-7) converted a fourth down inside its own 25, and took a 42-41 lead on Huckabay's 6-yard run with 2:45 remaining.

Alto's next possession began at its own 48 after a short kickoff, and Sturns' darted to the left corner and outran the Bobcats defense for a 21-yard touchdown with 1:01 to go. The 'Jackets sealed the win with an interception on Hull-Daisetta's ensuing drive.

Whitaker's touchdown runs covered 26, 6, 2, 1 and 66 yards. He had six runs of more than 10 yards in the game. Sturns added nine runs of more than 10 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown in the second quarter that cut Alto's deficit to 14-13.

Darrell Lavalais ran 11 times for 137 yards for Hull-Daisetta.
