PALESTINE — The Joaquin Rams came into Friday night’s contest undefeated, that is, and by the end of the night their season was over.

Bosqueville bounced back from a third-quarter deficit to defeat Joaquin, 21-20, in their Class A Division I Region III area playoff Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.

Bosqueville (11-1) will face Alto (10-2) next week in the regional semifinals. The location and time are yet to be determined.

Bosqueville quarterback C.J. Collins completed 16 of 21 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore receiver Greyson Gonzalez carried the ball eight times for 30 yards and also collected a pick-six on defense. Chase Hood recorded 36 yards on three receptions.

With 10:07 left in the game, Collins bulled his way through a pack of Joaquin (10-1) defenders and connected with Ben Perez for the 14-yard , game-winning touchdown.

Joaquin struck first on a 4-yard touchdown run by Shawn Rogers. After a failed two-point conversion, the Rams took an early 6-0 lead. On the ensuing drive, Bosqueville quickly answered with a 7-yard touchdown pass to freshman Kenton Hill, tying the game at 6-6.

Joaquin forced Bosqueville to turn the ball over on downs and regained control at the Rams’ 42-yard line. After a loss of four yards, a pass from Will Vaughn was picked off by Gonzalez, who ran it in to the end zone from 52 yards out, which shifted the momentum towards the Bulldogs.

On the opening series of the second half, Vaughn took the ball 4 yards for a Ram touchdown, once again tying the game at 14-14.

With 5:37 left in the third quarter, Tra Rogers snuck in the end zone from 4 yards out to regain Joaquin’s lead over Bosqueville, 20-14.

Rogers had 11 carries for 66 yards and one touchdown. Vaughn ran for 39 yards and one touchdown, while Jonathan Rico racked up 35 yards on 11 carries for Joaquin.
